Hope's Unbeaten 102 Powers West Indies to Their Highest T20I Chase and Levels the Series

West Indies produced the highest successful run chase in their T20 international history to beat India by six wickets in Ranchi, levelling the five-match series at 1-1.

Set 250 to win, the visitors got home in 18.3 overs, finishing on 252 for 4 with nine balls remaining.

Samson sets the pace

India had looked in control at the halfway stage. Sanju Samson struck 82 from 41 balls and Tilak Varma added a half-century as the hosts posted 249 for 5, a total that would win the vast majority of T20 internationals.

Roston Chase was the one West Indian bowler to escape the punishment, finishing with 3 for 24.

Hope and Rutherford take it away

The chase was built around captain Shai Hope, who made an unbeaten 102 from just 45 deliveries. He found an ideal partner in Sherfane Rutherford, whose 84 from 37 balls ensured the required rate never climbed out of reach.

Mayank Yadav took three wickets for India but conceded 36 runs from his three overs. India were without Jasprit Bumrah for the match.

Where it ranks

The chase is the highest West Indies have completed in men's T20 internationals. It is also the second-highest successful chase in the format, behind South Africa's 259 against the same opponents in 2023.

What comes next

The third T20I is in Indore on 11 October. With both sides having won once, and with batters dominating on true surfaces throughout this tour, the series is evenly balanced with three matches to play.
