Gill's 223 Not Out: India Chase 406 as Captain Makes the Highest Score in an ODI Run Chase
Shubman Gill made 223 not out from 133 balls as India chased 406 in Guwahati with 39 balls to spare, only the second successful 400-plus chase in ODI history.

Shubman Gill produced the highest individual score ever made in an ODI run chase as India overhauled West Indies' 405 for 7 in Guwahati, winning by eight wickets with 39 balls to spare to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The innings
Gill finished unbeaten on 223 from 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and eight sixes. It was his second double century in one-day internationals and the third-highest individual score in the history of the format.

The previous highest score in an ODI chase was Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan in Mumbai in 2023.
A 255-run opening stand
The chase was effectively decided by the first-wicket partnership. Gill and Rohit Sharma put on 255, with Rohit making 101 from 75 balls. By the time the stand was broken, the required rate was well under control.
India reached 406 for 2 in 43.3 overs.
A record total that was not enough
West Indies had every reason to believe they had done enough. Their 405 for 7 was the first time they had passed 400 in a one-day international. That it proved insufficient says as much about the conditions as about the quality of India's reply.

In the record books
- 223 not out: highest individual score in an ODI run chase
- Third-highest individual score in all ODIs
- 406: India's highest successful ODI chase
- Only the second successful chase of 400 or more in ODIs, after South Africa's 438 for 9 against Australia in 2006
- 811: runs scored in the match
Gill was named Player of the Match. The final ODI will be played in New Chandigarh on 3 October.
